Baptism and Marriage
St. Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican Church

...
If you are thinking about baptism or marriage, please contact us.  We would be delighted to talk to you about these important moments in your life and how St. Martin’s can help you in the celebration of these special events in your journey of faith with God.

Baptism
Baptism is a new beginning, an experience of being “born again”.  It is for people of all ages from the youngest baby to the most mature adult.  In baptism God acts in a special way in our lives to bring spiritual cleansing and renewal, sharing with us the gift of God’s Spirit.  Through baptism we enter the community of the church, and we are called to live out the promises of God as we serve both God and our neighbour.

Baptism launches us on a journey of faith.   As on all journeys, there can be stormy and difficult times, but as a member of the Christian community we can be assured of God’s presence with us, leading us into exciting new areas of life, and challenging us to use the gifts that God has given us to make a difference in the world.

Marriage

When two people decide to commit themselves to each other in love, the Church is there to help them to make that commitment a reality and to live it out in their new life together.   The Christian marriage service recognizes the places from which we come, at the same time that it launches us on a shared journey of discovery.  We understand that the love that binds the couple together is a reflection of God’s love for us and for God’s world.  In the marriage service, we pray that God will bless the couple, helping them to fulfil the vows they make to each other, and assisting them to grow ever deeper in their love and in the expression of that love in their lives. The special beauty of St. Martin’s garden and church can be a sign of our challenge to make of our lives’ together  something beautiful for God.
